Phnom Penh Pineapple

Family Genus: Bromeliaceae is an genus of pineapple, which is a variant of pineapple.

Origin: Native to the tropical and subtropical regions of the Americas.

Morphological characteristics:

Phnom Penh pineapple has 20 or 25 leaves, from the outside to the inside, from the bottom up spirally arranged into a rosette. Leaf leather is shiny, thick and stiff, and the sword-shaped outward rewind. The front of the blade is dark green with greenish yellow edges, and some yellow and green stripes are embedded in the middle of some leaves. There are blunt thorns around the leaves. The back of the leaves is pinkish green with the same yellowish-green hull as the leaves.

Phnom Penh bromelia flowering can be divided into two viewing periods:

One for the flower viewing period:

Phnom Penh pineapple flower special, beautiful and attractive. Above the torus, it has a roughly 2.5-cm-diameter cylindrical column and a round-hammered calyx. Approximately 25-30 pods of potato chips are packaged from the bottom up, like a bamboo shoot, into a dark pink to pink cylinder. , resembles a red bamboo shoot embedded in Phnom Penh pineapple. It takes about two weeks to spend time in order to extend the ornamental period of the flower buds. The pots can be moved to the indoor shade, and the flower buds can be seen for about three weeks.

The second is the flower viewing period:

When the flower buds (bulbs) are split, the straight stems are extracted. When the flowers open, the umbrellas are composed of 16 small flowers. Each flower is in the form of a flower with three lobes of yellow, middle red and purple. Viewing flowers in spring and summer, perennially viewing leaves, is a top view of ornamental foliage.

Growth habits:

Pineapple Phnom Penh is very acidic. It requires a pH of between 5.5 and 6.5. The substrate requires physical and chemical properties, a slightly coarse texture, and good water retention and drainage. Usually peat soil, sawdust, or coco peat and sand are mixed in a ratio of 6:3:1. If you cultivate with mud or coconut, the effect is also good. The water quality is very important for Phnom Penh pineapple, pH is higher than 7, the plant absorbs malnutrition, makes the leaves dull, but also produces scale, hinders photosynthesis, and can easily cause heart rot and root rot.

Tap water often contains large amounts of sodium and chlorine, and should not be used directly. Groundwater and river water may change due to geographical differences and should be used after water quality analysis. Rainwater irrigation is more appropriate.

In summer and autumn, the cultivation substrate is usually poured once a week. Usually only the foliar spray is needed to keep the air humidity and the cup water. Pay attention to the water temperature at noon during the high temperature period.

The number of irrigating in other seasons should be reduced to avoid rotted roots caused by long-term over-wetting of the potted substrate.

In short, the winter cold period should not be more water spray, spring and summer fall season should be more water spray.
