Geoduck breeding technology

Panapea genenose belongs to the molluscs, bivalves, espartoes, and genus of sea lice, and they are mainly distributed on the eastern coast of the United States and Canada. They live at water temperatures of 0°C-24°C and salinity 26‰--34‰. , water depth 6m--30m, sandy sediment in the sea area. Geoduck is a high-end consumer product in the catering industry. About 500 tons of geoduck is imported into China each year. In June 1999, we introduced 500,000 seeds of 2cm seed size and conducted the seeding experiment in Changhai, Liaoning Province. The growth was good. In February 2002, the average size was 16.5cm, and the individual’s weight was about 410g. The artificial seedling techniques are summarized below.
I. Nursery facilities
1. The total water body of the nursery pond is 300 cubic meters, of which 10 cubic meters are nursery ponds and 20 are 12 cubic meters nursery ponds.
2. Basic food biological cultivation pond water body 50 cubic meters.
3. Water treatment and gas supply systems with other shellfish nursery facilities.

After being dried for 3 hours to 4 hours, the pro-shellfish was placed in the ultraviolet-irradiated seawater and ovulated and discharged within 2 hours. Fertilized eggs have a density of 5 capsules/mL - 10 pellets/mL, incubation temperature 12 °C, salinity 28 ‰ - 32 ‰, antibiotic 1 ppm, depending on the water quality EDTA 2ppm - 8 ppm, still water incubation, stirring water 1 time per hour .
V. Larval cultivation
At 12°C to -14°C, after about 80 hours, D-type larvae were developed, and 260-mesh sieves were selected and incubated. Daily management includes: larval rearing density control at 5 cells/mL--8 cells/mL; water flow training, daily water exchange rate of 2 times full amount - 3 times the total amount; feed to feed the main algae, 50,000 c/day - 80,000 c/day, daily feeding 2 - 6 times; artificially agitating the pool water, 1 hour, 1 times, antibiotics 1ppm - 2ppm, EDTA do not exceed 8ppm; control water temperature at 16 °C - 8°C, salinity 22‰--35‰, pH 8.2--8.5, light less than 2000Lx.
Six, larvae abnormal attachment
1. The D-type larvae grow to 190 цm in about 40 days, and the ball-shaped larvae reach more than 20%. The larvae can be poured into the pool with fine sand as the attachment base. It should be noted that the attachment base is made of mud-free sea sand and used as a raw material. It can be used after being screened at 50 mesh and sterilized by high-temperature steam. The thickness should be 1.0 cm.
2. Larvae cultivation density 1 / mL--2 / mL, water temperature 17 °C --18 °C, salinity 25 ‰--35 ‰, pH 8.0--8.2, light less than 2000Lx.
3. Daily management. Water cultivating, changing the amount of water twice a day - 3 times the whole amount, bait organisms mainly with diatoms, supplemented by green algae, 80,000 c/day - 120,000 c/day, daily feeding 6 times - 8 Secondly, antibiotics and EDTA were administered depending on the specific conditions of the water body.
7. Cultivation of juveniles When the larvae are all metamorphose to the attachment base, when the body length is about 0.2cm, the primary culture is conducted in the inverted pool; when the body length is increased to about 0.5cm, the secondary culture is conducted in the inverted pool; a total of 50 Days or so, the physical and chemical factors of the water remain unchanged, and the dietary organisms gradually increase, but not more than 240,000 c/day. During the second stage of cultivation, the light is gradually enhanced, and more water is used to adjust the seedlings to adapt to the external environment. In July, 2.5 million seedlings of 2 cm body length were obtained, and the maximum individual body length was 4.1 cm. All of them were transplanted to the sea area for the bottom sowing.
VIII. Discussion
1. The pro-shellfish transportation is air-cooled by cold shock + pressure + temperature control.
2. According to US data, the water temperature raised by juveniles is limited to 22°C, and according to our experiments, no juveniles were killed when the water temperature reached 26°C.
3. Regarding food organisms, the author believes that diatoms and green algae (4:1) are effective, and juveniles should be careful to use contaminated and poorly-growing algal fluids during the incubation period, and at least 2 times more pools should be poured during juvenile culture. Grab the bottom, inspect, and do a good job of preventive work.
4. After several years of practice, it was determined that geoduck breeding in China is very feasible. It is hoped that geoduck turtles will become a new and excellent variety in the aquaculture industry.
