Steady increase in imports, export shrinkage, high import dependence of pacemaker imports in China

Business Club News, September 1 In recent years, the import volume and import volume of cardiac pacemakers in China have been growing steadily: the import volume increased from 26.9995 million US dollars in 2005 to 69.104 million US dollars in 2009, with a compound annual growth rate of 26.49%. Imports also doubled from 25,400 in 2005 to 52,600 in 2009.

From January to April of 2010, the import of cardiac pacemakers in China still maintained a relatively high growth rate. The import value reached US$21,898,400, an increase of 10.28% over the same period of last year; the import volume was 17,100, an increase of 17.77% over the same period of last year.

Use price limit

According to the statistics of the Ministry of Health, in 2008, the number of urban residents who died of heart disease in China was as high as 1.14 million. Heart disease has become the second highest rate of urban mortality in China, second only to malignant tumors. However, there are only 10,000 patients implanted with cardiac pacemakers, internal defibrillators or cardiac resynchronization devices each year, which is far below the level of developed countries and countries such as Europe and the United States. The main reason is that domestic pacemaker technology is difficult to pass, patients can only use imported products, but the high price limits many patients choose to use imported pacemakers.

Mainly imported from Europe

China mainly imports pacemakers from Europe. In 2009, China’s import of cardiac pacemakers in Europe reached US$56.605 million and imports amounted to 43461, which accounted for 80.46% and 82.62% of China’s total imported pacemakers (the same below) and imports.

From January to April 2010, China imported cardiac pacemakers from six countries, and the importing regions are still mainly European countries. Among them, the highest amount and quantity of cardiac pacemakers imported from Switzerland were US$ 9,637,100 and 7,102 respectively. The proportion of its amount is as high as 44.01%; followed by the United States and Germany, China’s imports of cardiac pacemakers for these two countries, which account for about 20%; and the imports to Sweden, Ireland and Spain are listed in 4 to 6 places.

Mainly in warehousing and re-export of goods in the bonded area

China's import of cardiac pacemakers to the bonded zone storage re-exports of goods. In 2009, the amount of cardiac pacemakers imported using this method reached USD 55,896,900, accounting for 81.02%, followed by general trade, accounting for 18.52%. The total of the two accounts for more than 99%.

From January to April of 2010, the mode of imports of cardiac pacemakers in China did not change much. The amount of cardiac pacemakers imported from bonded warehouses for re-exports of goods was US$ 16.9289 million, accounting for 77.31% of the total; The amount of pacemakers increased slightly, reaching 21.83%.

About 10 import companies

The number of imported cardiac pacemakers in China is around 10, and in 2009 a total of 11 companies engaged in the import activities of the product; from January to April 2010, a total of 8 companies engaged in import activities of the product. The top three import companies ranked in the import amount were large, accounting for about 90% of the total. Among them, Medtronic Medical Products Services (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. and St. Jude Medical Products (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. were located in the top two of the import amount in 2009 and January-April 2010, and their import scale was much higher than other companies. .

Foreign-funded enterprises are the main importers

From the point of view of the types of enterprises, foreign-owned enterprises are the main importers of cardiac pacemakers in China. In 2009, a total of 43,255 cardiac pacemakers were imported from wholly foreign-owned enterprises, amounting to US$ 57.037 million, accounting for 82.54% of the total. State-owned enterprises ranked second, but the number and amount were far lower than those of wholly foreign-owned enterprises. In 2009, state-owned enterprises imported a total of 5737 pacemakers, amounting to USD 6,472,700, accounting for 9.37% of the total.

From January to April 2010, this pattern did not change. The value of imported cardiac pacemakers from wholly foreign-owned enterprises reached US$17,204,600, accounting for 78.73% of the total; the proportion of imports from state-owned enterprises increased slightly, reaching 9.59%. The import value of private enterprises was US$2.4533 million, accounting for 11.20% of the total, which was an increase of 5 percentage points from 2009.

Shanghai, Beijing and Shaanxi are major import provinces and cities

Shanghai, Beijing, and Shaanxi provinces are major importers of cardiac pacemakers in China, with the largest number of cardiac pacemakers imported from Shanghai and Beijing. In 2009, only Shanghai, Beijing and Shaanxi provinces imported cardiac pacemakers. Among them, Shanghai has a total of 42,746 imports, the amount of 55,959,700 US dollars, accounting for more than 80% of the amount. The imports and imports of Beijing and Shaanxi are similar, both of which were about US$6 million in imports in 2009. The imports from January to April 2010 were also around US$2 million.

From January to April 2010, in addition to the above three regions, Zhejiang also began to import such products, although imports and imports were much lower than the first three regions.

Exports shrink significantly

In recent years, the export market of cardiac pacemakers in China has undergone large fluctuations, and it has basically contracted. In 2005, the export value of cardiac pacemakers in China was the highest in recent years, reaching 185,700 U.S. dollars; the export volume in 2006 dropped rapidly to 13,400 U.S. dollars; in 2007 it rebounded to 26,000 U.S. dollars; the export volume in 2008 was different from that in 2007. However, in 2009, China's pacemaker exports fell sharply to only 0.06 million US dollars, the lowest in recent years.

Exports fluctuate less than exports. In addition to 2009, the annual export of cardiac pacemakers in China is more than 12. Due to the serious decline in export value from 2005 to 2008, the unit price of export of this product has basically declined year by year, from US$1.09 million in 2005 to US$0.085 million in 2008, and in 2009 it has dropped to US$0.015 million. The lowest in recent years. This also reflects the low technological content of cardiac pacemakers in China and can only promote exports at low prices.

From January to April in 2010, China exported a total of 2 cardiac pacemakers with a total amount of US$5,600,000, and the unit price of the product was US$0.28 million. The export price was significantly better than in 2009, and it is estimated that the annual export volume will be equal to 2008. Flat.

Larger changes in export areas

The pace of export of cardiac pacemakers in China has changed significantly. In 2006, China’s cardiac pacemakers were exported to Asia, mainly in Myanmar, Hong Kong, and Turkey. In 2007, the export regions were Myanmar, Hong Kong, and Nigeria. In 2008, the export regions were Hong Kong, China, and the United States; 2009 The export area is the United States; in January-April 2010, the export area was Germany.

Small number of export companies

There are fewer exporters of cardiac pacemakers in China. The export enterprises in 2008 were Shanghai Enno Logistics Co., Ltd. and Oriental Aviation Import & Export Co., Ltd.; the export company in 2009 was only Eastern Airlines Import & Export Co., Ltd.; from January to April of 2010, the only export enterprises were Beijing Aircraft Maintenance Engineering. Limited company.
