Changing the way we raise pigs has always been centered around using feed, but I never expected to shift this habit so suddenly. Now, I'm trying to minimize feed usage by replacing part of it with some of my family's "drowning water" — a term we use for rainwater collected from flooded areas. However, directly raising pigs in muddy water is generally not allowed, as it’s unhygienic and negatively affects both urban and rural living environments. More importantly, pork from pigs raised in such conditions can be unsafe, potentially causing diseases in both humans and animals. Therefore, it's essential to properly handle this muddy water.
Traditionally, people would cook the muddy water, which is labor-intensive, consumes a lot of fuel, and still doesn’t guarantee long-term preservation. A better solution is to use microorganisms to ferment the water into safe feed. The Ginseng Glutinous Water Feed Starter is the best option for this process.
Here’s how the fermentation works: mix 40–50% of the muddy water with the Gold Treasure Bait Water Fermenting Agent. The formula includes wheat bran, rice bran, and muddy water in a ratio of 30%:30%:40%. If there’s a lot of water, make sure to drain it first. Add the baby’s water-fed starter at 2 per 1000 parts, mix thoroughly, and ensure the moisture content is around 65%. To check if the moisture is right, squeeze the mixture in your hand — it should form a ball without dripping water and scatter when dropped on the ground.
Once ready, transfer the mixture into a fermentation tank (small or large, even a sink can work for small batches). Seal it and let it ferment for 3–5 days. After each use, cover it again, and it can be stored for over six months without spoiling. When feeding the pigs, mix 20–60% of the fermented material with unfermented water (which must be boiled and disinfected) depending on the pig’s size. Also, deworm the pigs once a month to maintain their health. This method not only reduces feed costs but also improves sustainability and safety in pig farming.
