Winter potato is at its right time

In order to achieve high and stable yields of potatoes, it is essential to focus on several key cultivation practices. These include proper sowing timing, variety selection, soil preparation, fertilization, seed treatment, planting techniques, and field management. First, the sowing period plays a crucial role in potato growth. It is generally recommended to plant between mid-October and late November. Using early-maturing varieties that can withstand high temperatures helps ensure a successful crop. Second, selecting the right variety is vital. In Huizhou, it's best to choose varieties that are well-suited for local conditions and consumption habits. High-yield, drought-resistant, heat-tolerant, and disease-resistant types such as Feiwu Ruiyit, Yuezhi 85-38, and Jinnong 958 are ideal. After harvesting, deep plowing is necessary to create a loose soil layer of at least 25 cm. Ridge-making should be done with a width of 90 cm, double rows, and 25 cm between rows, with a height of 25 cm. Third, applying base fertilizer is critical. At least two-thirds of the total fertilization should be applied as basal fertilizer, combining organic and chemical sources. A typical mix includes 750–1,000 kg of compost or fire-ash, 300–500 kg of decomposed manure, plus 30–40 kg of compound fertilizer, 25–30 kg of superphosphate, and 10 kg of potassium chloride or sulfate. Fourth, seed treatment is important for healthy growth. Seed potatoes should be disinfected using a 200-fold solution of 40% formalin or a 400-fold solution of 75% chlorothalonil. Cover them for two hours and let them dry in a cool, dry place. Before planting, cut the seeds into pieces, ensuring each piece has at least one bud. The size of each piece should be around 50 grams, with a minimum of 30 grams, and contain 1–2 buds. Larger pieces can be cut into halves or thirds, depending on their size. Fifth, following proper sowing specifications ensures uniform growth. Double-row planting is typically used, with 85–90 cm between rows and 25–30 cm within the row. Sowing depth should be about 5–6 cm, avoiding direct contact with fertilizer. Place the seed potatoes so that the buds face upward and are aligned vertically. After sowing, cover with a thin layer of soil and straw to protect the seedlings. Sixth, field management is essential throughout the growing season. Early seedling thinning is necessary, keeping only 1–2 strong plants per hill. Cultivating the soil twice during the growing period helps maintain soil aeration and control weeds. The first cultivation occurs when the seedlings reach 10–15 cm, loosening the top 5–6 cm of soil. The second cultivation is done before the vines start to run, widening the ridges to 3–4 cm above the ground. Fertilization should begin once the seedlings are 70% established. Apply topdressing regularly, with the first application consisting of 10–12 kg of compound fertilizer and 2–3 kg of urea per mu, mixed with 1,500–2,000 kg of water. Subsequent applications reduce urea and increase potassium. Foliar sprays such as "Yunda 120" or 0.3% potassium dihydrogen phosphate can help regulate plant growth. Additionally, applying 1 gram of a specific solution per 75 kg of water can extend the ripening period. During the tuber formation stage, maintaining adequate moisture (around 80%) is crucial. Spraying a mixture of 0.5% urea and 0.3% potassium dihydrogen phosphate or 0.8% potassium nitrate can support tuber development. Magnesium supplementation is also important—spray 100 grams of magnesium sulfate dissolved in 75 kg of water when the plants reach 45 cm in height. By carefully following these steps, farmers can significantly improve the yield and quality of their potato crops.

Rabies Vaccine After Animal Bite

Rabies is a viral infection transmitted by saliva of infected mammals, most commonly wild, terrestrial carnivores (e.g., skunks, raccoons, foxes, coyotes) or bats.rabies virus usually moves along a neural pathway and enters the CNS. After entrance into the CNS, the virus is unlikely to be affected by antirabies antibodies and encephalomyelitis usually develops and almost always is fatal. Vaccination of rabies vaccine in a timely manner is mandatory.
