Cold-resistant transgenic rice developed successfully in Japan

Sato Yuri, a researcher at the Hokkaido Institute of Agriculture in Japan, announced at the annual meeting of the Japan Breeding Society on the 21st that his research team has successfully developed a cold-resistant transgenic rice that can produce large amounts of pollen and bear rice grains at low temperatures. The researchers put the transgenic rice and the existing rice varieties at a low temperature of 12 degrees Celsius for a period of time, and the transgenic rice only produced a 30% reduction, whereas the average rice yield was reduced by 70%.
