Danshen thrives in a warm climate with plenty of sunlight and a slightly moist environment. It is a deep-rooted crop that prefers well-drained, loose loam soil with a near-neutral pH. To ensure optimal growth, the soil should be deeply tilled to at least 50 cm, and sufficient organic fertilizer—such as 30,000 kg of compost or manure per hectare—should be applied. The planting beds should be made 1 meter wide and 20–23 cm high, with 25 cm spacing between them. Drainage ditches should also be dug around the beds to prevent waterlogging.
Salvia miltiorrhiza can be propagated through seeds, root cuttings, or stem cuttings. After harvesting, it’s recommended to expose the roots and raise them in late June, then sow the seeds in early July. Each type of sowing method requires about 15–22.5 kg of seeds per hectare. After sowing, cover the seeds with a thin layer of ash and straw to retain moisture. Water regularly to keep the soil consistently moist. Germination usually occurs within 7 days. As seedlings grow, carefully remove weeds without damaging the young plants.
Transplanting is best done in late November of the same year, as this leads to higher yields compared to spring transplanting. Dig holes measuring 25 cm x 25 cm, and plant divided roots with a cross-section of about 1 cm in diameter and 5–7 cm in length. Cover the roots with soil up to 1 cm above the original root level. A total of 525–750 kg of planting material is needed per hectare.
For propagation via stem cuttings, select thick stems, cut 2–3 nodes, trim some leaves, and make whole pods. Insert the cuttings 6–10 cm into the soil, leaving the buds slightly exposed. Firm the soil and water immediately. Use a sprayer to keep the field moist during the early growth stages.
The initial growth is slow, so three shallow cultivation sessions are typically required from transplanting to the formation of the root collar. Once the seedlings turn green, apply 1,000 kg of diluted human urine. During the second growth phase, apply decomposed manure and urine at 3 kg per square meter, along with 225 kg of superphosphate. Additional applications of human excrement may be necessary depending on the health of the plants.
To avoid nutrient depletion, it's important to manage weed growth by controlling flowering mosses in batches. This helps increase yield and maintain soil fertility. Watering should be carefully managed to prevent root rot. After rain, drain excess water, and during dry periods, water promptly. Seedlings require more frequent watering during their early stage.
Pest control is crucial for healthy growth. Root rot typically begins in May and causes serious damage from June to October. Implementing a rice-field to dry-land rotation system, along with using biological pesticides like agricultural antibiotic 120 (diluted 200 times), can effectively control the disease. A 50% thiophanate-methyl solution (800 times) is also effective.
Sclerotinia sclerotiorum affects the base of the stems, starting in early May and worsening in June and July. Spraying a mixture of jinggangmycin and carbendazim provides good control. Alternatively, a 50% licorice solution diluted 1,000 times can also be used.
Another common issue is the stem base rot caused by pathogens. At the onset of the disease, applying a 1:100 Trichoderma-based biopesticide to the base of infected plants, and mixing 250 grams of the preparation into the soil around healthy plants, can significantly reduce damage.
Four small tiger beetles damage seedlings in spring. Using 90% trichlorfon mixed with 100 grams of rapeseed cake and 5 kg of bait can help trap them. Other pests such as leaf spots and aphids should also be monitored and treated promptly.
Harvesting typically occurs after one year of growth, usually between the winter solstice and the beginning of spring. Choose a sunny day for harvest. After digging up the roots, shake off the dirt, do not wash them, and expose them to the sun to reduce moisture. Remove the fine roots and continue drying in the sun. On average, 1,500–2,250 kg of dried root is produced per hectare.

Esculin Powder is A bitter. Naringin dihydrochalcone obtained by hydrolysis and hydrogenation is a Sweetener, and its sweetness is about 150 times that of sucrose.
It has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, anti hemagglutination, analgesic and other activities, and has significant diuretic effect on mice. It can inhibit the aldose reductase of rat lens, and it is the growth inhibitor of Bacillus subtilis. At the same time, it can also inhibit the chemical carcinogenesis. It can inhibit the increase of capillary permeability caused by histamine and has a weak analgesic effect. At the same time, it has antibacterial, anticoagulant and inhibition of aldose reductase in rat lens.
