Fermenting glutinous water into animal feed is a cost-effective and efficient way to utilize a resource that's usually considered waste. This method not only reduces feeding costs but also improves the quality of the feed, leading to better livestock performance. By properly fermenting this material, you can significantly enhance the growth rate of your pigs, reduce slaughter time from six to seven months down to five months, and save on fuel and labor costs.
The key to success lies in using the right fermentation agents. When using Surabaya (Zheshui) fermentation auxiliaries, you can achieve excellent results. The fermented feed helps create a cleaner, healthier environment in the pigpen, with pigs showing rosy, shiny skin and no unpleasant odors. This leads to a more pleasant working environment and better animal health.
To start the process, first drain the glutinous water thoroughly, then mix it with other ingredients to bring the moisture content down to around 60%. A basic formula includes:
1. 60–70% drained glutinous water
2. 10% corn flour
3. 18% wheat bran
4. 1–2% premix (follow the manufacturer’s instructions; if making full-price feed, the premix should be added during fermentation, not when making raw materials)
5. 0.2% of Fermentation Auxiliaries Type 2 or Type 5
Once all the ingredients are mixed, seal the mixture and let it ferment for one to three days, depending on temperature and conditions.
For homemade full-price feed, use 88–89% corn flour and wheat bran (adjust the ratio based on the size and growth stage of the animals—e.g., 30% corn flour and 70% wheat bran for younger pigs, or 70% corn and 30% wheat for older ones). Add about 10% soybean meal and 1–2% premix as needed.
When using the fermented feed, mix it with either purchased or homemade full-price feed at a ratio of 60–70% fermented feed to 40–30% full-price feed. This means you can replace up to 70% of the traditional feed with the fermented version, saving money without compromising nutritional value.
Importantly, the fermented glutinous water feed doesn’t need to be mixed with fresh glutinous water. It can be used directly, or combined with a portion of purchased or self-made full-price feed, depending on your preference and availability. This flexible approach makes it easy to integrate into your existing feeding system.
