Hydroponics feed starter

Fermenting glutinous water into animal feed is a smart and cost-effective way to utilize a resource that's often considered waste. This method not only reduces feed costs but also improves the health and growth of your livestock. By properly fermenting this water, you can achieve significant benefits, including faster growth rates, lower fuel and labor costs, and a cleaner, more hygienic environment in your pigpen. The key to success lies in using the right fermentation agents. With proper techniques, you can reduce the time it takes for pigs to reach slaughter weight—from six or seven months down to five months or less. The fermented feed also helps improve the pigs’ skin condition, making it reddish, shiny, and free from unpleasant odors. Plus, the overall environment becomes fresher and more pleasant. To begin, first drain the glutinous water thoroughly with clean water, then add other ingredients to bring the moisture content down to about 60%. A typical formula includes: 1. 60-70% drained glutinous water 2. 10% corn flour 3. 18% wheat bran 4. 1-2% premix (follow the manufacturer’s instructions) 5. 0.2% fermentation agent (Type 2 or Type 5) Once all ingredients are mixed well, seal the mixture and let it ferment for one to three days, depending on the temperature and desired level of fermentation. For self-made full-price feed, you can use a combination of corn flour and wheat bran, which should make up 88–89% of the mix. The ratio between corn flour and wheat bran can vary depending on the size and growth stage of the animals—such as 30%:70%, 40%:60%, 50%:50%, 60%:40%, or 70%:30%. Add about 10% soybean meal and 1–2% premix according to the instructions. When feeding, mix the fermented feed with either purchased or homemade full-price feed at a ratio of 60–70% fermented feed to 40–30% full-price feed. This means that the fermented feed can replace up to 70% of the full-price feed, significantly reducing your feed costs. Importantly, you don’t need to mix the fermented feed with fresh glutinous water. It can be used directly, or combined with a portion of purchased or homemade full-price feed, based on your preference and availability. This flexibility makes the process even more practical for small-scale farmers and backyard producers.
