Zibo City Agricultural Technology Extension Center has been introducing Israeli bell pepper varieties since 1998, successfully cultivating them in greenhouses. The management practices during the planting period are outlined below. Before planting, greenhouses are thoroughly sterilized. About 15 to 20 days before sowing, the soil is deeply tilled, and wheat straw along with lime is added. Sufficient water is then applied, and the greenhouse is covered with plastic for over 15 days. Alternatively, 500 grams of sulfur powder mixed with 1000 grams of sawdust can be used per 1 to 15 hectares (1 acre) two to three days prior to planting. After lighting, the greenhouse should be closed for more than 12 hours before opening. Before sterilization, the soil can be plowed and left exposed for 3 to 5 days. Prior to tilling, 1 kg of 50% carbendazim WP and 810 g of 40% pentachloronitrobenzene per 1/15 hectare are mixed and spread in the greenhouse.
Two to three days before seedlings are disinfected and planted, the seedlings are sprayed with an 800-fold solution of methyl sulfide or an 800-fold solution of pepper disease. After transplanting, the roots are watered with a 600-fold solution of methyl sulfide, a 260-fold solution of pepper disease, or a transplanting spirit. Water management after planting involves providing enough water initially, with no need for frequent watering of seedlings. If there's a shortage of moisture, small amounts of water should be given to encourage drip irrigation. Seedlings are cultivated two to three times.
After planting, pest and disease control measures are implemented. An 800-fold suspension of methyl sulfide and an 800-fold solution of pepper disease are sprayed every 5 to 7 days. Alternatively, a 1200-fold solution of transplanting spirit can be used to water the roots 3 to 4 times to prevent damping-off, blight, and verticillium wilt. A 20% virus A or 1.5% phytoalexin solution diluted to 1000 times can be sprayed to prevent viral diseases. At the same time, 40% dimethoate diluted to 800–1000 times or chrysanthemum pesticides diluted to 2000–3000 times are used to control pests such as cabbage caterpillars, diamondback moths, aphids, and mites. In the early stages of shading and cooling, excessive light intensity may occur, so it is important to cover the greenhouse with a shade net to reduce light intensity inside the structure.
