Zibo City Agricultural Technology Extension Center has been introducing Israeli bell pepper varieties since 1998, successfully cultivating them in greenhouses. The management practices during the planting period are detailed below. Before planting, greenhouses are thoroughly sterilized. This is usually done 15 to 20 days before the planting season. The soil is deeply plowed, and wheat straw along with lime is added. Sufficient water is then applied. Greenhouses are covered with plastic films for over 15 days to ensure proper sterilization. Alternatively, 500 grams of sulfur powder mixed with 1000 grams of sawdust can be used per 1 to 15 hectares (1 acre), 2 to 3 days prior to planting. After applying this mixture, the greenhouse is sealed for more than 12 hours, and then ventilated. Before sterilization, the soil can also be deeply plowed and left exposed for 3 to 5 days. Prior to plowing, 1 kg of 50% carbendazim WP and 810 g of 40% pentachloronitrobenzene are applied per 1/15 hectare and evenly distributed in the greenhouse.
Two to three days before seedlings are transplanted, they are sprayed with an 800-times dilution of methyl sulfide or an 800-times dilution of pepper disease solution. Once planted, the roots are watered with a 600-times dilution of methyl sulfide or a 260-times dilution of pepper disease solution, or with transplanting spirit. After planting, sufficient water is provided, and watering of seedlings is generally avoided. If there is a shortage of moisture, small amounts of water should be given to encourage drip irrigation. Seedlings are cultivated two to three times during this phase.
After planting, pest and disease control measures are implemented. Every 5 to 7 days, an 800-times dilution of methyl sulfide suspension or an 800-times dilution of pepper disease solution is sprayed. Alternatively, root irrigation with a 1200-times dilution of transplanting spirit, 3 to 4 times, can help prevent damping-off, blight, and verticillium wilt. To prevent viral diseases, 20% virus A or 1.5% phytoalexin diluted 1000 times is sprayed. At the same time, 40% dimethoate diluted 800 to 1000 times or chrysanthemum pesticides diluted 2000 to 3000 times are used to control pests such as cabbage caterpillars, diamondback moths, aphids, and mites. During the early stages of shading and cooling, light intensity is high, so it's important to cover the greenhouse with shade nets to reduce light levels and protect the plants.
