The use and maintenance of agricultural machinery batteries

(1) During battery use, it's important to keep the area around the battery clean by removing dust and oxides from the terminals and wire connections. Wipe off any electrolyte that may have spilled onto the battery cover, and ensure all wiring is secure and properly connected for reliable performance.

(2) Regularly inspect the battery to make sure it is firmly mounted in the vehicle. Check that all wire connectors are tight and that the electrical contacts are in good condition to prevent power loss or poor conductivity.

(3) Avoid discharging large amounts of current for extended periods. When starting the engine, limit each start to no more than 5 seconds, and allow at least 15 seconds between attempts. Also, avoid using the electric horn continuously for long durations, as this can drain the battery quickly.

(4) Do not charge the battery with high currents or overcharge it. The voltage regulation of the generator should be adjusted strictly according to the manufacturer’s specifications. It has been proven that a 10% increase in charging voltage can reduce the battery's lifespan by two-thirds. Always follow the recommended charging procedures to maintain battery health.

(5) Charge the battery regularly to keep it in a fully charged condition. If the battery becomes discharged, it should be recharged within 24 hours to prevent damage. A well-maintained battery performs better and lasts longer.

(6) In winter, it's crucial to keep the battery fully charged to prevent the electrolyte from freezing due to a drop in its specific gravity. Freezing can cause the battery case to crack, leading to serious damage and potential safety hazards.

(7) If the battery will not be used for three months or more, fully charge it before storage. Store it in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area. Periodically check the electrolyte's specific gravity to ensure the battery remains fully charged. For long-term storage, discharge the battery at a 20-hour rate, drain the electrolyte, and rinse the battery with distilled water several times until the water is neutral. After drying, seal the vents and store the battery in a safe place to protect it from corrosion and degradation.
