How to buy white prawn seed stocking

How to purchase healthy shrimp seedlings is the first crucial step in boosting shrimp production and increasing your income. Selecting high-quality broodstock and seedlings can significantly impact the success of your aquaculture operation. 1. Start by carefully examining the source and condition of the broodstock from the hatchery. It's best to import first-generation broodstock from Hawaii, USA, as they tend to be more vigorous and productive. If you're using second-generation stock from last year, make sure they are strong, healthy, and have a high egg count. The shrimp should be active, swim well, and show no signs of illness or weakness. 2. When purchasing white shrimp seedlings, ensure that the hatchery has properly desalted them. The size should be at least 1.2 cm, and it's important that they have been tested for bacteria and viruses at an authorized laboratory. If testing facilities are not available, you can disinfect the seedlings by adding 50 grams of formalin (formaldehyde) per cubic meter of water. Mix thoroughly and soak the shrimp for a short period. Healthy shrimp will continue to swim normally, without showing signs of disease or stress. 3. Once you receive the seedlings, place 100 of them in a basin and observe their behavior. They should swim actively with clear directionality, not just circling aimlessly. Their bodies should be smooth, with visible transparency in the body cavity, clear muscle tissue, intact limbs, and wide, open tail fins. Avoid any that show redness in the tail, cloudiness in the middle gut glands, or blackened corpus callosum—these are signs of disease. To test further, randomly remove a few shrimp, wrap them in a wrung-out wet cloth, and leave them for 10 minutes. If they survive and remain active, they are likely healthy. If they die or appear weak, they may be of poor quality or diseased. 4. When introducing the seedlings into the nursery pond, choose a sunny day, either in the early morning or late afternoon. Carefully open the plastic bag near the edge of the pond and slowly release the shrimp into the water. Allow them to swim down naturally. Even though the seedlings have been desalted, they should still be placed in a pond with a salinity level of around 5‰ to help them gradually adjust. Make sure the temperature difference between the water in the bag and the pond is no more than 5°C. If the difference is too large, let the bag float in the pond for a few minutes before releasing the shrimp, allowing the temperature to equalize. This helps prevent shock and improves survival rates.
