1. Fertilization: After the harvest, continue to apply a quality bayberry fertilizer. For trees that appear weak, you can increase the application of urea by 0.3–0.5 kg per tree to help restore their health and promote better growth for the next season.
2. Soil Covering: After fertilizing, cover the soil around young trees planted during the same year with mulch. This helps retain moisture, suppress weeds, and provides a more stable environment for root development. Additionally, shading techniques can be used to protect these trees from intense sunlight during the hot summer months.
3. Pruning: Perform post-harvest pruning in mid-July. Focus on removing large dead branches from the top of tall vertical branches, as well as crossing branches between two trees. On Wang Chang trees, remove any hanging branches. After cutting, apply a wound healing balm to protect the tree from disease and speed up recovery.
4. Pest Control: 1) Apes: In the second half of July, use 25% buprofezin powder diluted at 1000–1500 times, or 40% cypermethrin at 1500 times. 2) Cocoon moths and leaf roller moths: Use manual removal methods or spray 20% cypermethrin EC at a recommended concentration. When spraying, make sure to target the insects directly for maximum effectiveness.
5. Growth Regulation: For fruit trees that show excessive growth, control it by cutting a ring around the trunk or main branches using a sickle when the new shoots grow 1–2 cm. Apply Huawang No. 2 solution to promote balanced growth. Alternatively, spray the canopy with 15% paclobutrazol diluted 2000–2500 times. Repeat the spray after 7–10 days for optimal results.
