Another traditional method involves using a sweet and sour bait mixture made from sugar, vinegar, wine, and water in a ratio of 3:4:1:2. A 5% solution of vinegar is added, along with 5% trichlorfon (a commonly used insecticide). This mixture is placed in a pot elevated 1 meter off the ground. It is recommended to set up this trap over 3 acres of land, covering it during the day and uncovering it at night. This method effectively captures and kills adult insects such as Spodoptera litura, Brassica julibriss, Spodoptera exigua, Liriomyza cubensis, and small earthworms.
By combining these various techniques—light trapping, color-based repellents, pheromone traps, and bait traps—farmers can significantly reduce pest populations in a more sustainable and environmentally friendly way. These methods not only help protect crops but also minimize the need for chemical pesticides, promoting healthier agricultural practices.
